Tsehai Publishers believes in inspiring the next generation. We actively reinforce this belief by presenting opportunities to young people through internships or through our Tsehai Fellowships program, by publishing books and putting on events that dispel fallacies and promote knowledge and passion, and by sponsoring individuals who have the drive to spread their own message. Today, we would like to congratulate the recipient of the 2014 CREW (Center for the Rights of Ethiopian Women) scholarship we sponsor, Helen Afework, for her involvement in the Third International Conference of Ethiopian Women in the Diaspora.
The conference was held this past Saturday the 22nd and hosted several speakers who discussed current issues that affect Ethiopian women around the world. Afework, who is a young researcher and graduate student at the European Masters in Migration Studies in Germany, received the 2014 CREW scholarship because of her extensive work on domestic workers in the Middle East and the passion and drive she exhibits. The scholarship’s intent is to encourage Ethiopian women researchers to present their papers and findings at annual conferences. Afework was one of four speakers to focus on the current situation of Ethiopian women migrant workers in the Middle East and those who return from Saudi Arabia.
Special thanks to Dr. Maigenet Shifferraw for her great leadership while hosting this annual conference and working closely with us to showcase Dagmawi Yimer's film Like a Man on Earth, which was previously screened two weeks ago at Loyola Marymount University to the academic, Ethiopian, and larger community.
